Radio Sapientia is a popular radio station that caters to the needs of the people in Nigeria, most especially in southeast region. The radio station provides a wide range of programs, including religious programs, news, and entertainment. As the demand for mobile apps grows, Radio Sapientia identified an opportunity to create an app that would allow its listeners to easily access its programs from their mobile devices. The app would provide an enhanced user experience by making it easier for listeners to tune in to their favourite shows, listen to news, and engage with the radio station.

Problem
Radio Sapientia’s primary goal was to increase its listenership by making its content more accessible. However, its existing website was not optimized for mobile devices, making it difficult for listeners to access its programs from their smartphones. In addition, the website was cluttered and lacked a clear hierarchy of information, making it challenging for users to find what they were looking for.
Research
To better understand the needs of Radio Sapientia and its listeners, I conducted extensive research. I began by analysing the current market trends in mobile applications for radio stations. I also conducted interviews with the radio station’s management and their listeners to gather information on their goals and pain points.
From the research, I discovered that the primary goal of the radio station was to expand its reach and increase its listenership through the mobile application. Most of the listeners expressed a desire for a simple and intuitive app that would allow them to easily navigate and listen to the station’s content.

Solution
To address the problems identified, I designed a mobile app for Radio Sapientia that provided a simple and intuitive user experience. The app was designed with the following features in mind:
- Simple Navigation: The app’s main navigation was designed to be straightforward, making it easy for users to find what they were looking for. I divided the content into categories, including Live Radio, News, and Events.
- Streaming Quality: The app ensures a smooth streaming experience with high-quality audio to keep the users engaged.
- Alerts and Notifications: The app sends alerts and notifications to the user about the upcoming shows, news updates, and events.
- Social Media Integration: The app provides social media integration, allowing users to share their favourite shows and content on social media platforms.
- Feedback and Ratings: The app has a feedback and rating system that allows users to rate the app and provide feedback to improve the app’s performance.
Design
Based on my research, I designed a mobile application for Radio Sapientia with a clean and simple interface. The app features a prominent play button on the home screen that allows users to quickly start listening to the station’s content. I also included studio phone-in lines that allow users to call-in and participate with any ongoing programme.
The app’s colour scheme and graphics reflect the brand and personality of Radio Sapientia, which is known for its bright and lively programs. To create a sense of community among listeners, I included a feature that allows users to share what they are currently listening to on social media.
The app has three main sections: live radio, live videos, and programme synopsis.
